German course with visa – Learn German & live in Germany
Our intensive language courses are state-recognised and meet all requirements for a language course visa. This allows you to learn German in Hamburg and – under the new rule effective March 2024 – work up to 20 hours per week.
Requirements for the language course visa
- Valid passport
- Residence outside the Schengen area
- Visa application ideally 3–6 months in advance
- Fully completed visa application and passport photos
- Proof of course registration and payment
- Blocked account and health insurance, if applicable
Legal frameworks
- Legally required: at least 18 lessons per week
- Our intensive course includes 20 lessons per week, officially recognized
- Since March 2024: Up to 20 hours of work per week possible, provided it is noted in the visa
- Support in finding accommodation (shared flat, student dorm, host family)
- Arrangement of advance employment contracts through partners possible

Working alongside the language course
With the language course visa you may – depending on the note in your visa – work up to 20 hours per week.
We support you, among other things, with:
- Placement of preliminary work contracts
- Contacts to employers and job portals
- Notices and information on site
Course start & Registration
- New start dates every month
- Registration online or directly at the office
- Mandatory form for visa candidates to be completed in advance
Required documents
- Passport (copy)
- Appointment confirmation from the embassy
- health insurance (e.g., Care Concept)
- Proof of blocked account (e.g., Coracle)
- Power of attorney for dealings with authorities
- Proof of educational qualification (if available)
Important Information
- Visa processing usually takes 8–12 weeks
- The processing fee is non-refundable
- In case of rejection: refund of the course fee upon presentation of the rejection notice (minus the €200 fee)
- The course start can be postponed once; a second postponement costs €80
